Bangers & Mash is a competitive online fighting game I’ve been developing independently for nearly eight years, set for full release this summer. Designed, programmed, and directed entirely on my own, the game features rollback netcode for fluid online play, as well as a cast of eight fully realized characters—each with unique mechanics, playstyles, and fully written backstories. What began as a technical challenge evolved into a long-term exploration of rhythm, responsiveness, and player expression.

At its core, Bangers & Mash reflects my belief that game feel is a storytelling tool—that mechanics, timing, and impact can express character and emotion as clearly as dialogue or plot. Drawing from my background in game design and visual storytelling, the project blends competitive systems with thematic world-building to create an experience that’s not only mechanically sharp but emotionally resonant. In keeping with my larger body of work, the game treats structure—here, frame data, inputs, and movement arcs—as a language through which meaning is not told, but felt.
